Although, there are things I still want to switch/finish I figured since we have been here three months now, its time I share some living room pictures! I'm slackin folks!
When we first bought our home, the walls were all painted a yellowish gold color almost throughout the entire place. Now don't get me wrong, I love gold. While previously living in our old Victorian I feel like at one point or another I contemplated gold for nearly every room. Even though I am still madly in love with Victorian style, I knew those bold colors would not be coming with me to our new home.
Being in a much smaller space(3,200sq ft. smaller to be exact) I wanted to paint all of the walls a shade of white. Not only because I wanted to start fresh, but because I wanted the rooms to all flow together, and not feel so choppy. I feel this way it makes the space seem a bit bigger than it really is. After buying entirely too many paint samples, I ended up going with vintage linen by Behr. I used it throughout the living room, foyer, dining room, and hallways. It turned out a little more yellow than I was wanting, but I think the issue is we do not get much nature light in the front of the house due to the wrap around porch.
My most favorite look has always been mixing Victorian pieces with shabby chic whites. I love seeing the beauty of gold mirrors and crystal chandeliers paired with chipping white antique furniture. To me, its a more realistic approach to using antiques throughout a home. I love the way the white painted furniture gives it a more relaxed look, but still gives a timeless touch to a room.
Now, I know it may seem crazy to have white furniture with two dogs, and a wild two year old roaming the home, but we went with the Ikea slipcovered sofa and chair, and so far its working out lovely. We can easily remove the covers to wash them.(By easy I mean I have my husband do it:) ) Also, replacement ones are only $25.00! So, if one would get a stain, or simply want a new color or pattern they can easily be replaced.
Well, its time to get back to wrapping gifts. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday, and a white Christmas!
